What to Expect

It's normal to have mixed feelings about coming to counseling.

I understand that you may not be thrilled about going to counseling.  Many feel nervous, scared, or hesitant and then wonder if counseling is necessary.  Maybe you're relieved that something is finally happening.  You may be apprehensive about sharing your personal issues and history.  All of these feelings and thoughts are welcome and okay.  You will find these negative feelings will diminish in intensity as we get to know each other and as you become more familiar with what to expect.   You get to be in control of how much of your story you disclose and how quickly you disclose it.

Our first few sessions will involve an evaluation of your needs.
During this period, I will be able to offer you some first impressions of what will be most helpful for you and how we may go about your work.
